Faye Ellen Kufahl
The openhearted humor of her free-spirited sincerity often disarms the people Faye meets; her fierce intellect and deep caring are revealed through earnest conversation.
A licensed social worker, Faye graduated from the University of Wisconsin, earning a three-fold degree in social work, psychology, and sociology, with an emphasis on geriatrics. She also has the credits for a music degree, having given numerous vocal recitals in both opera and church music formats.
Professionally, Ms Kufahl has twenty years experience of working with the chronically mentally ill and related populations. Faye also works as an independent consultant to IRIS, a State of Wisconsin self-directed support program.
In 2009 Faye published the autobiographical book "Nutterville…and Other True Stories of Coping With Mental Illness", detailing a quiet childhood shattered by her sister Gail's onset of paranoid schizophrenia when Faye was eleven. Faye has credited these events with her later decision to go into social work.
Her life has been one of service to others, and she applies herself by helping the developmentally disabled population, the frail elderly, and those who are in hospice. Eight weeks spent in a shelter for abused and battered women in 2008 has also strengthened her on-going outreach to help others in similar situations.
Amongst her many other interests are writing poetry (having recently completed a book of cat poems entitled "Come Kitty" and illustrated by her partner Wm. J. Krupinski), Native American spirituality, enjoying live blues music, and making new friends wherever she goes.
